Web Comic Scrapers Update

Captjc V6 SmallI wanted to find a new way to enjoy my favorite web comics without the need for an Internet Connection. Plus since I have a iPad and a Kindle, I felt that I needed a way to get these comics on my eReaders. I have written a simple python script to download the entirety of my favorite web comics into a folder. It came mostly as a test of the BeautifulSoup HTML parser library for python.

wxWidgets and Me

It has come time for the ol’ Duder to start GUI programming. For the longest time, I have been a terminal junkie, mostly messing around with nCurses when I needed some semblance of interface (maybe I will release some of my early nCurses demo if I feel like it). Anyway, I messed around with Microsoft GUI programming back in college and found it clunky and constrictive (Then again, I have been a *NIX programmer since high school!)  and have generally stayed away from GUI programming (if it is worth doing, it can be done on the console!)

Still Alive and PC List Updates

Been a few months. I have built a new computer and finally upgraded from XP to Windows 7 for good. I had tried the beta when it was first released and liked it. It blew XP out of the water (which really isn’t hard). Anyway, to fit the occasion, I have updated my PC software list. Notable changes were adding Calibre ebook manager (which I plan to use when my Kindle finally arrives), and Windows Live essentials as well as some housekeeping.

As always, it can be found here: https://captjc.wordpress.com/pc_programs/

Mac Software Update

I am finally going to take the plunge and update my laptop to Snow Leopard. I went through my free software list to get the latest binaries of my favorite programs. I found that quite a few were at new URLs, and a couple were either dead or became pay utilities. So I have updated my list to reflect these changes and added a few replacements and new additions.

As always, it can be found here: https://captjc.wordpress.com/mac_programs/

Sad to see Cashbox is dead though, I really loved that program.
